Pedro Emilio Suarez is the President of Dow Latin America. Additionally, he serves as the Country Manager for Brazil and is the Commercial Vice President for Performance Chemicals & Basic Chemicals in Latin America.
Suarez also is Vice President of Brazil’s Chemical Association, Abiquim, and is a board member for +Unidos CSR initiative, a group of companies aligned with USAID to strengthen public and private alliances to optimize and enhance United States Corporate Social Responsibility investments in Brazil.
Previous to his current role, he was named Commercial Vice President for the Plastics business portfolio in North America in 2004. He was based in Houston, Texas and was board member of the American Plastic Council.
In March 2000, Suarez was named Area Commercial Vice President for the Polyolefins & Elastomers Business Group in Europe, Middle East and Africa. Based in Horgen, Switzerland, he also was Geography leader of Spain and Portugal in 2002. He was a board member of the European Plastics Association and the Spanish Chemical Association.
Suarez began his Dow career in 1979 with Latex TS&D in Brazil. In 1981 he was transferred to Argentina where he was responsible for the development of Latex opportunities. In March 1984, he was named Product Market Manager for Urethanes and Latex in the South region of Latin America. In 1986, he was transferred to the previous Latin America Headquarters in Coral Gables, Florida, USA, as Specialty Plastics & Emulsion Polymers Product Marketing Manager. Two years later, he was named Sr. Marketing Manager and in January 1990, Business Manager for Performance Products. He was then promoted to Latin America Business Manager for Emulsion Polymers and Brazil Performance Portfolio Commercial Manager in 1993 and was transferred to Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The following year, he was named Business Director for Emulsion Polymers and later Commercial Director for Specialty Chemicals & Emulsion Polymers. He assumed the position as Commercial Director for Plastics Latin America in October 1996.
Suarez earned his masters degree in Chemical Engineering from the Universidad Tecnologica Nacional in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
