eBusiness has rapidly become an everyday part of how business is done. Since every company handles information in different ways and with many diverse software applications, ERP systems and data messages, it is quickly apparent that the full value of eBusiness cannot be realized unless the industry develops standards for data exchange. As a result, Dow and other chemical companies took the initiative to develop data standards, known as Chem eStandards, that would ease electronic transactions – the Chemical Industry Data Exchanve (CIDX) was born.
A trade association and standards body, CIDX is expanding its scope beyond data standardization to business process standardization because it recognizes that standards are optimized when trading partners have similar internal work processes.
Dow is also leading an industry-wide initiative to enhance cyber security throughout the chemical industry value chain. As part of its strategy, the Chemical Sector Cyber Security Program worked with CIDX to develop cyber security guidance and tools, and will continue to work with industry trade associations to drive widespread implementation of cyber security guidance and address emerging sector needs.
Because CIDX was developed "by the industry…for the industry," Dow customers and suppliers can be assured that the adoption of standards will improve the efficiency, reliability, ease, speed and cost of conducting business electronically.
